Beauty Battle: The Maybelline Show Down

Dewy + Smooth or Matte + Poreless? That is what we are here to chat about! Let me start by saying I have owned the Maybelline Matte + Poreless foundation for quite awhile now and it is a seriously good foundation. I have my random skin troubles that affect how my foundation wears, but that never stops me from grabbing this one because it is just... it is just so damn good, ya'll! The Matte + Poreless is geared for normal to oily skin, and as someone who has combination/acne-prone skin, I can say this foundation is not too matte and it does not break me out! All good news. So! Lets get into this show down, shall we?

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless:
- For normal or oily skin
- 40 shades
- Lightweight
- Pore minimizing
- Mattifies and refines pores
- Features micro-powders to control shine and blur pores
- Leaves a natural, seamless finish
- Dermatologist tested, allergy tested, non-comedogenic

Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth:
- For normal to dry skin
- 16 shades
- Hydrates and smoothes skin texture
- Maybelline's smoothing concentrate hydrates rough patches
- Protects with SPF 18
- Luminous finish
- Dermatologist tested, allergy tested, non-comedogenic, fragrance-free

I have both the Matte + Poreless and the Dewy + Smooth in the shade 110 Porcelain. Unfortunately, the same shade in the two different foundations are not a match. The Matte + Poreless is a fair shade with a neutral-yellow undertone. I have pink undertones but this particular shade still works for me! As for the Dewy + Smooth, the shade 110 Porcelain is darker and has an orange undertone to it on my skin. So, one bummer is that the shades between the two foundations are not alike... so if you are looking to grab the opposite foundation, you will need to go to a store to find your color match!

That is just one negative, but focusing on the positives... they are both lightweight and comfortable! Lately, I have been more into BB Creams and luminous foundations simply because I always set my entire face with a powder and I think it looks more flattering when done over a dewy foundation. Personally, I feel Maybelline is one of thee best drug store brands... so if I can find my right shade in the Dewy + Smooth... I think we have my winner regardless of my combination/acne-prone skin type!

[Top: Dewy, Bottom: Matte ...first applied]

[Left: Dewy, Right: Matte ...dried down]

If you want to see me try these both on and talk about them some more, head on over to my YouTube channel (linked in the header)!

Disclaimer: I did purchase the Maybelline Matte + Poreless Foundation, but I received the Dewy + Smooth complimentary from Influenster! Neither Influenster or Maybelline are monetarily compensating me for a review of the foundations or a blog post!

Happy 2018 Birthday, Beauty Insiders!

Every year Sephora offers birthday gift options for their Beauty Insiders. You can become a "beauty insider" by joining the free program that Sephora has! The program allows for customers to build points, which can be redeemed for some nice samples throughout the year, and of course you get a birthday gift (the whole reason we are writing this today)! I can recall two Nars lip crayons being one, a face mask and face wash by Fresh being another... but this year there is a cleansing mud and face primer by Glam Glow and the little kit I chose by Bite Beauty!

Inside the Bite Beauty kit you get a sample of the Agave Sugar Lip Scrub and the Agave Lip Balm, as well as a mini Amuse Bouche Lipstick in the color Chai, and a Matte Creme Lip Crayon in the color Glace! I felt like this was definitely the better value, plus the colors of the lippies are universally flattering for all skin tones (see the photos below). The Amuse Bouche Lipsticks are super pigmented and hydrating... definitely one of the more comfortable lip products on the market! The Matte Creme Lip Crayons are also comfortable and do not have the sheen-y finish of the lipsticks, but they are not transfer-proof or drying like some other options out there!

I happen to be a fan of Bite Beauty and I am actually obsessed with this little kit. The Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai is in the nude family with a neutral/warm, dusty undertone that picks up more of a brick hue next to the Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace. The Glace colored crayon is a dusty mauve shade, which again falls somewhere in the nude lip family. It is more on the neutral/cool side of the spectrum... but so beautiful! If you aren't a Beauty Insider... go sign up so you can get your hands on this freebie! If you already are one... at least now you know you need this when it comes time to choose!

[Left is Chai (lipstick), Right is Glace (crayon)]

Tony Moly... Guacamole?

Okay, really... it's avocado, but Guacamole just rhymed! I am here to tell ya'll I found a face cream I am obsessed with! Many of you may know I prefer lighter weight skincare-- I love the Garnier Moisture Rescue Gel-Cream (the blue-green one), facial sprays, and I routinely opt for oils in my routine, but lately... I have been grabbing this rich, dense cream. The Tony Moly I'm Real Avocado Rich Cream is no joke. It contains argan oil (fair trade ingredient), buckwheat extracts to soften the skin, it is 70% of natural originated ingredients, and does not contain "parabens, talc, triethanolamine, sulfate-based surfactants, mineral oil, benzophenone, or artificial colours."

The production description states, "Avocado, also known as 'Butter in forest', softens the rough skin and gives a rich glow by forming moisture barrier over the skin densely." It is to be used as the last step of your skincare routine and it should be patted into the skin to "promote absorption." The cream is very thick and made me nervous because I have acne-prone skin, but it blends out effortlessly into a silky nothingness. It leaves my skin fresh and extremely hydrated, and I use it all the time now in my regular skincare routine! Problem? I found mine on clearance in Ulta for $4! Now it seems I can only get it off the Tony Moly website for a whopping $17.99! It is still worth it, but I'd try checking your local Ulta clearance first!

Yeezy Blue Tints | The Splurge Series

I got in! On December 16, 2017... I was making a protein pancake when I glanced up at the clock on my oven and saw it was 11:03. I knew the Blue Tints were releasing at 11:00 sharp that day, so I told my dad to keep an eye on my pancake while I ran upstairs and grabbed my iPad. I logged onto the Adidas website and was sent directly to the "waiting room." Adidas lets people in at random in order to purchase Yeezys... trying to keep it fair for everyone and avoid site crashing. I have sat on the Adidas site before for hours in the dreadful waiting room, until all pairs were sold out and I "x"-ed out of the screen with nothing but wasted time.

Fifteen minutes into waiting, I saw my screen go white and the purchase page loaded. I freaked out. I was telling my dad I got in and was scrambling for my credit card. I had to refer to the size chart before ordering and it said a Yeezy men's size 8 would be equivalent to the fit of a Yeezy women's size 9. I ordered the 8 and waited for the confirmation E-Mail. I got them! A few days later I got my shipping confirmation and a few days after that... they arrived at my door! I did not know if I was going to keep them, but then I slipped my foot into them and felt that they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on.

In terms of looks, they are Yeezys. They have a very unique design to them, and they remind me of a bearded dragon's head to be completely honest. The actual design of the shoe and it's reptile resemblance does not bother me... they are actually cute in a very strange way! I do  l o v e  the color way. I love the aqua tint mixed with the charcoal pattern and high resolution red SPLY side writing. As for sizing, with a thicker sock these will be a great fit, but I am sure I could have gone a half size down for a more snug/truer fit. Overall, I am beyond thrilled I got my hands on these. I cannot wait to wear them out... I'm just waiting for better weather!

As for the title of this post... you will not see this "series" too often. I am not one to splurge on items, actually... I think I have splurged on something maybe four times in the past six years. Lucky for me I got these babies for their regular retail value of $220, and you are out of your mind if you think I would go out of my way to buy them for what eBay users are trying to sell them for. No thanks! The regular price is already giving me heartburn. What do you guys think about these sneakers? Not your cup of tea? Were you loving them and unfortunately missed out... or perhaps you like them but refuse to pay the hefty price?

Ah, Refreshing!

Over the past three months I have developed a love for the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with aloe, cucumber, and green tea. It does expand beyond the facial spray, but lets start there! The spritz on the bottle provides a great, even mist that is refreshing and hydrating. The scent is subtle but pleasant and the spray itself is not super costly. I am on my second 4oz bottle (those retail for $7.00) and I also have a travel spray that came in a kit! The spray can also be purchased in an 8oz size for only $12.00... and honestly, it is worth every penny!

The product is said to be "an invigorating mist formulated with an infusion of nutrient-rich botanicals and cucumber essential water to revive dull, tired skin. Aloe vera and cucumber - both rich in essential vitamins and minerals - deliver a cooling boost of hydration as green tea provides powerful antioxidant protection. Skin is left feeling refreshed and revitalized," according to Ulta's website! It also have versatile use. You can use it prior to your moisturizer, as a 'pick me up' throughout the day, or even to finish off your makeup look so any powders you used melt into your skin!

My mom purchased me a little set that contained the 4oz spray in addition to a matching face mask! The mask is called the Cucumber Tonic Mask which retails at $18 for 2oz. A little goes a long way with the mask. It feels tightening and leaves my skin super clean. You can also use the facial spray prior to the mask for an extra kick! As for the description... Ulta's website says, "Purify and tighten pores with this cooling, refreshing, mask. Featuring kaolin, zinc oxide, and cucumber extract to effectively tighten and refresh oily skin. Excess oil, dirt, and impurities are drawn out as cucumber provides a cooling boost-leaving the complexion looking healthy, refined, and clear." Personally, I am a fan!

One of my good friends also purchased me a travel size gift set that included the facial spray mentioned above in a miniature size, as well as the Enzyme Cleansing Gel and the Botanical Exfoliating Scrub (it is known as the Hit Refresh Set). The Enzyme Cleansing Gel is thick but works into the skin really well and leaves it feeling clean without being stripped of moisture! It is described as "a papaya and grapefruit-infused face wash that rejuvenates the complexion and leaves skin feeling fresh." The exfoliating face scrub is really nice as well. It is something I like to use one a week just to work any dead skin off my face. It is gentle but effective! Overall, I am a huge fan of what I have tried from the Mario Badescu line and would totally recommend anyone to check it out. I look forward to getting my hands on some more from his line and expanding my skincare horizons!

Lush-ious

This past Christmas I received two lush sets from my coworkers (I hope they don't think I smell), and I opened them up right away! I am not a person who ever goes into Lush... I just use the original Dove soap bar, but I was excited to get these two sets because they looked super intriguing. I have already used both multiple times and I might have to say... I think I might become a Lush shopper! The products are handmade, not tested on animals, and 100% vegetarian (some are even labeled for vegan users)! I like the concept of lush... handmade and animal-friendly products for everyday use. Now, lets talk about what I got!

The first set I received was the Fabulous gift set which includes Ro's Argan body conditioner, the Comforter shower cream, and the Butterball bath bomb. The Comforter shower cream is  d e l i c i o u s . It is a "blend of sweet cassis and creamy fair trade vanilla absolutes" that create "a yummy blackcurrant aroma." After using this, I hop into bed and smell my way to sleep. It is a warm, soft fragrance and it really is a comforting scent. As for the Ro's Argan body conditioner... this can get greasy real quick. I like to use this solely on my legs and only after I shave. It is a great rinse-off conditioner, but you can definitely go overboard and feel like an oil slick... so watch it! The bath bomb I have yet to use because none of my drain stoppers work. Anyone want to offer me up their bathtub? I am taking names!

Then second set I received was wrapped up in a cute holiday "knot-wrap" scarf... and I love scarves! It is the Evergreen set which includes the Hidden Mountain soap bar and the Lord of Misrule shower cream. The Hidden Mountain bar is described as "a grounding blend of ho wood oil, lavender oil and oakmoss" which smells so lovely. My favorite of all the items is probably the Lord of Misrule shower cream. It has "black pepper, patchouli and vanilla" which is an amazing combination. I love masculine smells and the woodsy undertones in this really pull on my heart strings. It is more of an awakening scent versus the Comforter which is literally like a blanket!

Free of Foundation

You heard it right. I am breaking free of foundation-- well, for most days! Over the past few months I started to notice that any and all foundations I was using were separating on my forehead and nose (some more than others), and I was getting really sick of it! In a previous blog post I mentioned the Dr.Jart+ Black Label BB Cream which I still love, but the color range is one shade (light to medium skin)... and that shade just so happens to be more of a "summer shade" for me. So I went to Sephora in need of a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream to fit my "winter shade" of extremely pale.

Sephora has a lot of options but I went for the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer. There is also one that is not labeled "oil-free," but I selected the oil-free one because I have combination oily skin that is acne prone. I pre-moisturize and prime before using this product and basically consider it my foundation! The Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 - Oil Free has a natural finish. It is 1.7oz and retails for $44.00 (but ya'll already know I got it with a coupon because I'm not paying no $44.00)!

ABOVE COLORS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
1C1 Cameo / 1W1 Porcelain / 2C1 Blush / 2W1 Bisque / 2W2 Nude / 2W3 Natural / 3C1 Fawn

ABOVE COLORS FROM RIGHT TO LEFT:
3W1 Ochre / 3W2 Sand / 4C1 Almond / 4W1 Tawny / 5C1 Caramel / 5W1 Tan / 6C1 Walnut / 6W1 Mocha

Basically, the product itself is amazing, but the color descriptions/names are way off. To get the correct shade I would highly suggest you go into Sephora or another retailer to test out the shade options to find your perfect match!

High-End Hair Oils vs. L'Oreal Elvive

Today I decided I would write up a blog post on hair oil today because... well, I felt like it! Last month I received an Influenster voxbox that contained the L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil for me to test out. Yes, it was free... but I was not paid or told I had to say anything special about the product. I did film a YouTube video on this hair oil but I also wanted to share a blog post comparing it to other oils I have as well! Here we go...

These are all my hair oils! Again, the L'Oreal Elvive Oil (shown first) was sent to me complimentary of Influenster to test out, but all the rest I purchased myself. Now... look at the prices of all the "high-end" oils. Not one of them is less than $20. Did you peek at the ingredient lists too? Match them up to the $6.99 oil. Yes... they all share some identical ingredients. It is crazy that we basically pay for the name because to be completely honest... that $6.99 L'Oreal oil  p e r f o r m s , honey. It is super lightweight and leaves my hair extremely shiny. Not a greasy shiny, just a pretty and healthy shine. It smells beautiful too, but it is nothing overpowering.

The L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil has quickly become one of my favorites. Since I own all these oils, of course I am going to use them all! I do not want to waste all the money I spent on these, but if you are looking for a hair oil that won't break the bank... definitely give the Elvive Oil a go. After trying it out, I would 100% purchase it with my own money. If you want to know more, you can check out my YouTube video where I go on, and on, and on about it! Just click the YouTube icon in the header, and I'll talk to you all soon!

Crest White Strips ... Again! | Review

After my last trial of the Crest White Strips (Crest 3D White No Slip Supreme Flexfit Whitestrips, which claim to whiten "like a $500 professional treatment"), I told you all I would probably try it out again with a different type. Reason being you ask... because though they definitely whitened my teeth, no one was noticing. If I am whitening my teeth for an hour every night for 21 nights, someone better notice! Back to the drawing board I went and I tried out the Crest 3D White Luxe Whitestrips Glamorous White. These particular white strips come with 14 treatments to be done for a half hour every night. Comparatively, in the Glamorous White kit you are getting one less week of treatments and doing half the time per treatment. So, what does this mean? Better or worse?
The Glamorous White retails for $34.99 and the Supreme Flexfit retails for $44.99 -- so each treatment of the Glamorous White costs roughly $2.50 whereas the Supreme Flexfit costs about $2.15. Lets get into some specs...

Glamorous White:
          - Removes 10 years of tough set-in stains
          - Lasts 6 months & beyond
          - $34.99 for 14 treatments (30 minutes per treatment)

Supreme Flexfit:
          - Whitens like a $500 professional treatment
          - Lasts 18 months & beyond
          - $44.99 for 21 treatments (60 minutes per treatment)

I think overall the Supreme Flexfit is the better buy. You get more whitening time with better guarantees, and if it doesn't work you can get your money back by sending in the UPC with your receipt (so hang onto it)! I did go through the Supreme Flexfit prior to the Glamorous White which may have aided in my current results, but I do think they are whiter now than when I finished the Supreme kit... so the Glamorous White still works! Below I included my 'Before' and 'After' photos... so for now, I will take another break. Perhaps in the new year I'll attempt the Supreme kit again. I want super white teeth, okay? Super white!

Laceless Shoes with Laced Up Sweats

Hey, hey! Obviously ya'll can see I am in the same exact denim jacket and the same ASOS brand white slip-ons as in earlier posts, but that is the point of clothing, right? Wear it... and wear it again! It was a bit chilly out today so I decided to create an outfit around these sweatpants because they are thick and the inside is a soft fleece material... so comfy! I also love that they are high-waisted and have a cute little lace up detail on the front, it adds a little something extra to an otherwise basic pair of sweats.

I kept everything pretty neutral because I do not have much to match the green pants. The black long-sleeve is a thin material so I layered on a denim jacket (which also helps the outfit look more put together), and threw on some sneakers since I was running around town! I personally feel like this is such an easy outfit to put on and get out the door. It is comfortable and I feel comfortable in it... and that is style rule number one, my friends!

Denim Jacket: TopShop
Long-Sleeve Tee: Forever21
Sweatpants: Boohoo
Shoes: ASOS (Mens)
Sunnies: Raybans (Nordstrom Rack)

AG Hair Overload

If you are a subscriber to my YouTube channel I mentioned the possibility of creating a blog post dedicated to AG Hair products since I noticed I have become a slight collector, so I scoured my cabinets and pulled out every AG item I own to share with you! AG is a brand that I have come to seriously enjoy— it starts with one product I go crazy for and then I want to try another and another, and boy... it is a not-so-vicious cycle. I not only enjoy AG products, but their brand as well. AG has won a number of awards, believes in simplicity and empowering confidence, and most importantly... they give back (locally and globally, which you can read more on in the ‘About’ section of aghair.com).

Before we get into the show-and-tell of this post, I want to mention two quick things! First, AG uses natural ingredients and states that, “If we don’t believe in the integrity of the ingredient, simply put, we won’t use it. Which is why we leave out common ingredients like salt, paba, parabens and DEA.” You may also notice a number of their items are labeled 'Gluten-Free' as well! Interesting, right? So if you are living a gluten-free lifestyle, you may want a gluten-free shampoo too (it may sound funny, but shampoo goes on the scalps of all kinds of people... including those with gluten allergies). Secondly, AG Hair is cruelty-free! Their products are not tested on animals and the brand does not harm any animals in the making of their products. I find this is becoming something a lot of consumers are starting to pay attention to, and that isn’t the only great thing about the brand— they also try be environmentally friendly! They are extremely transparent, so if you want more information, check out their F.A.Q!

Now, since I am sure you have heard enough boasting about the brand, lets talk about the products!

Fast Food Sulfate-Free Shampoo: — "Finally, a fast food that’s good for you. Fast Food sulfate-free shampoo is unbelievably rich and full of moisturizing lather, providing extreme hydration to chronically dry hair while being lightweight enough for all hair types. For optimal results follow with our nourishing Fast Food Leave On Conditioner." — Sulfate-free but still lathers, moisturizing but not heavy, and leaves the hair feeling clean (color-safe)... this is something I like to use in the winter months or when my hair just feels overly dry. I also like that this is paired with a leave-in conditioner versus a rinse-out.
Fast Food Leave-In Conditioner: "Fast Food feeds, smoothes and calms frizzy, thick or coarse hair instantly. Potent humectants and abyssinian oil do double duty to moisturize and mend split ends while adding weightless condition and shine to dry, lifeless hair." — This says it is great for frizzy, thick or coarse hair but I have a ton of fine hair and do not find that this is overpowering in any way, shape, or form!

Sterling Silver Shampoo: "Sterling Silver is specially formulated to eliminate brassy, yellow tones from blonde and silver hair. With its unique violet base, this mild toning shampoo removes dullness and brassiness, leaving blonde and silver hair looking cleaner and brighter."
Sterling Silver Conditioner: "Blonde or silver hair needs specific conditioning and our Sterling Silver is up for the challenge. Formulated to eliminate brassy, yellow tones from blonde and silver hair with its unique violet base, our toning conditioner provides intense moisture, condition and luster to hair." — I love that both the shampoo and conditioner are violet in color. They are meant to tone lightened hair, but I love using this on my natural brown hair. It smells so good and it does not leave the hair feeling dry like many toning products do.

Renew Shampoo: "Product build-up, chlorine and damaging mineral deposits are a thing of the past with Renew’s gentle, colour-safe revitalizing formulation. The ideal swimmer’s shampoo, Renew gently removes chlorine and product build-up and leaves hair with renewed manageability." — This clarifying shampoo is a must-have. I use this when my hair is feeling heavy or unnaturally dirty. It gives your hair a deep clean and is great to use prior to a hair mask. I would not recommend this for everyday use, but again... totally something I need in my collection of hair products.

Cleansing Cream: “Takes the place of traditional shampoo and conditioners. Ideal for super dry or brittle hair, Cleansing Cream is formulated with AG’s exclusive Sea Complex, combining anti-aging seaberry oil with natural seaweed extracts in a nourishing and conditioning base to gently remove dirt and pollutants from the hair. These oceanic superfoods strengthen hair, restore moisture and enhance natural texture. Cleansed hair is less stressed, softer and more manageable.”
Moisture Mask: “An extensive blend of naturally hydrating ingredients, including AG’s Sea Complex, penetrate deep into the hair shaft, sealing the cuticle for immediate, long term moisturizing benefits.” — The shampoo has no lather. I love to use this in combination with the Moisture Mask in order to really give my hair a boost of hydration. I do this once a week or once every other week depending on how my hair is feeling.

BB Cream: Leave-in “multifunctional hair primer, filling, smoothing, moisturizing and protecting hair against heat styling appliances and colour fading with AG’s exclusive CARE complex. This super rich, silky priming cream prepares and protects the hair prior to styling, evening-out porosity and leaving hair feeling thicker and healthier.” — This is meant to be a hair primer, sort of like how one primes their face prior to make-up application. I personally found this unnecessary in my own haircare routine.

Beach Bomb: “Beach Bomb creates bombshell-worthy waves that are natural, full of texture and incredibly sexy. This lightweight, alcohol-free cream is infused with keratin protein, silk amino acids and our Curl Creating Complex (C3) to condition and keep your hair healthy while you’re looking good. A light coconut verbena fragrance transports you to the beach.” — I have an entire video dedicated to the use of this product. This is hands down my favorite air-dry texturizing product, and I have tried quite a few!

Remedy: “Formulated with over 98% plant-based and naturally-derived ingredients, Remedy leave on mist detangles, reduces frizz, adds shine and balances the pH of the hair. An elixir for the hair chock-full of healthy ingredients, including apple cider vinegar, Remedy leaves hair feeling noticeably smoother, while helping to restore strength, elasticity and lock in moisture. AG’s exclusive blend of essential oils provides natural fragrance and the benefits of aromatherapy. Ideal for all hair types, perfect for colour-treated hair.” — In love. This is an awesome leave-in. It holds similar characteristics to It's A 10's Miracle Leave-In, Redken's One United, and Matrix Total Result's Miracle Creator... but it is natural and lighter.
Dry Lift: “Formulated with over 96% plant-based and naturally-derived ingredients, AG’s Dry Lift instantly adds grit, volume and texture. Ideal for refreshing second day hair and creating updos.” — This particular product is not something I gravitate toward, but it DOES work!

I love every single product I currently own from AG except for two: the BB Cream and Dry Lift. I find the BB cream an unnecessary step in my personal haircare routine and the Dry Lift is something I personally am not into. I am not saying these products are bad, I am simply saying they are not my favorite because they are both things I find unnecessary for my personal routine and styling... which isn’t to say someone else might not be able to go on with their routine without them! AG Hair is total win for me, from brand to product... I’m obsessed!
